Jedburgh Deer Park

Adamant we were going on family day out, we headed off to Jedburgh deer park. Ben and Mary poo pooed East Links Farm on the grounds that it was too expensive and Peter was too young to appreciate it. So after 1 1/2 hours driving through beautiful countryside we arrived at Jedburgh’s deer park. Ironically it probably cost more once petrol was factored in, I don’t think any of us realised how far it was, lol!

Compared to East Links Farm, the deer park is smaller and rougher round the edges. Still it has plenty of charm and things to see and do. Peter still wasn’t very sure of the animals and cried if they got too close or honked at him. Unlike his Auntie Mary who practically hugged every one and would have taken them home. Except maybe for the cranky lama who took the humpf when she tickled its rump.

I really liked all the rustic play apparatus dotted around for children and the birds of prey. There were lots of pigs, sheep, chickens, horses and of course deer. The deer outside seemed quite used to humans and came up close. I had a huge wildlife first … I saw my first wild red squirrel … awesome!

I’ve decided that deers are only cute and pretty as babies. The adult females had very long ugly heads really. The males at least look majestic with their antlers. It’s the same with sheep … up close they’re not pretty at maturity. Cows definitely have the nicest faces.
